Why? Because people are much more knowledgeable and sophisticated these days, and don’t want to listen to the same old sales messages from salespeople.
To them, you’re a bug with awful timing, trying to blast your way into their lives with messages talking about how good your products or services are.
Like the email I recently received from a Mortgage Agent that said,
“I wanted to send you this email to book a consult with me so I can share the details about (Our Mortgage Company). Please click below to book an appointment with me and I look forward to speaking with you!”
Now, why on earth does this Mortgage Agent think that I’m going to waste my valuable time to listen to him try and sell me on his company? I’ve got better things to do with my time.
The only thing this poorly created sales message does, is tell me what the agent wants. He wants to sell me on his company’s products/services. But, at no time does the Agent ever consider what I may want.
This Mortgage Agents sales message is bad, and in need of a change.
If the Agent had perhaps considered my needs, wishes or wants, he could easily have identified what I might want/need in a mortgage product or service.
Then in his opening email, he could create a little curiosity to get me interested. Perhaps he could say something like this…
Hi Brett … I know your time is very valuable, but what if I told you that in only 10 minutes, I could show you how to reduce thousands off your mortgage? Would you like to see how?
Of course, I would! Ten minutes of my time to save thousands. That’s a no brainer. And I would definitely call the Agent back.
This message talks about what’s important to me, not the Agent. It reduces my fear of wasting a lot of time with a salesperson, by suggesting that a quick 10 minutes could greatly benefit me.
And that’s what you need to do when you create your marketing and sales message. You need to reduce your prospects fears and entice and motivate them to WANT to contact you.
Remember, a good sales message will help you generate more leads, and convert those leads into customers.
